Dungeons and Drinks is a fast-paced bar simulator that was created in Unity for Chillenium 2022, which is the internationally renowned student-led game jam in which teams develop a whole game within 3 days. This game won the award for "Best in Visuals". Since the theme of the game jam was "you really shouldn't mix those", the gameplay consists of making drinks to meet the demands of the monstrous customers while simultaneously mixing the correct ingredients together.
During the process of developing this game, there were many challenges with programming as the team consisted of three programmers and one artist. As I was responsible for programming the drink creation mechanic in the bar, I found myself to be outside my comfort zone as I not only learned about efficient programming, but also gained experience with UI design, since I had to prioritize on presenting the game's art in its best form while programming intuitive interactions with the ingredients. The mixing of the drinks was programmed around the idea that the player would click and drag ingredients into a glass. Then the player would be given the option to mix, juice, and shake the contents of the drink in the form of mini-games where the player would have to press keys at certain speeds and sequences. Implementing the minigames and their UI was tedious but very satisfying!
At the end of the game jam, I was proud to win the award for best visuals as it marked my ability to work effectively with a team regardless of the amount of pressure and to program new concepts.
