Role
Programmer & Sound Designer
Malware-Fytes is a 3D first-person shooter created in Unreal Engine for the TAGD Spring 2021 Game Jam with a team of 4 and I was one of the programmers. The theme of the game jam was "not enough space". Consequently, the main mechanic of the game was that the player, equipped with anti-virus weapon, would fight to survive against waves of dangerous viruses that will consume the player's data, which is the platform. As the player survives more and more rounds, the number and types of enemies will also increase while the platform will increasingly become more scarce with less tiles.
My introduction into game development began with this game as it was my first time working with a game engine and working in a team. I was tasked with implementing how the player damaged the enemies, various powerups, and balancing the power of the enemies with the player's power. Additionally, I was in charge of the sound design for the player's movement, attacks, and interactions with powerups.
I faced many adversities in learning about blueprints, meshes, and other intricacies of Unreal. However, I thoroughly enjoyed making breakthroughs in designing fun powerups, player movement, and impactful sounds. Although the game didn't win any awards, I believe that the development process nurtured my design skills.
